Join Us in “Caring For Uncle” this Lunar New Year 2023! Your support will help the frail aged who are dependent on nursing care, the elderly with dementia, seniors isolated from family as well as those with mobility issues like swallowing disorders. Your gift will provide for doctors’ visits, psychosocial programmes, medical treatments, meals, and shelter for our beneficiaries.
ABOUT UNCLE SIM
Chinese New Year has come and gone, Yet, it is vital that we do not neglect the underprivileged like Uncle Sim* in the community. Unfortunately Mr Sim* suffers from a hearing impairment and a mental condition. He would miss his medical appointments and forget to take his medication. He also suffers from a mobility issue and is at risk of falling. Mr Sim’s family had to constantly care for him and keep him safe. With his many illnesses, growing frail became a real struggle for Mr Sim and his family.

Uncle Sim's Story
In 2014, Mr Sim joined our Peacehaven Bedok Day Centre after his family noticed his medical condition deteriorating. There, he was introduced to our Integrated Day Care program. Our caretakers were able to identify and tailor the individualised nursing and medical support that helped him see improvement. Soon after, Mr Sim’s brother shared: “My brother was feeling depressed over his condition, but since he had joined Peacehaven, we have seen positive changes in his overall health.”
Today, the centre continues to manage Mr Sim’s medication plan and provide for his daily activities. In addition, he is also meaningfully engaged with Peacehaven Centre’s activities and undergoes physiotherapy to maintain his physical functions. Through all the love and care from our caretakers, Mr Sim’s spirits are constantly uplifted. To give his caregivers at home some respite, Peacehaven even took the initiative to arrange for Mr Sim to be cared for in our Peacehaven Nursing Home.
Peacehaven provides indiscriminate care for elders while maintaining their dignity. The extended support benefits elders like Mr Sim and is only made possible through the kindness of our donors. In addition to caring for frail elderly, The Salvation Army cares for vulnerable children and youth, struggling families, and isolated migrant workers. During this festive season, we ask for your continued support in making all our activities possible.
