A family-setting, where fifty children reside in small cluster units, is the foundation of the Haven total care programme. The care, concern and support given at The Haven provides stability and security for children from disadvantaged families.
A dedicated team of care staff and social workers help the children in their educational and social development, whilst at the same time working toward reuniting them with their families. Programmes and activities are directed towards raising the self-esteem and self-worth of the children and to develop the potential of each child.
Individualised Care
An individualised care plan is developed addressing each child’s educational, social, spiritual and family needs. This is reviewed regularly so that the changing needs of each child are met.
Special Care
Children who have been abandoned, affected by abuse or neglect, need support and special attention from care-givers and social workers to help them heal and come to terms with their past.
Life Skills Training
Equipping our children with life skills is an exciting challenge for the care-givers. The children are encouraged to plan and participate in programmes and activities to inculcate a sense of ownership and pride in what they do. From interesting and exciting activities they learn independence, responsibility and accountability, to themselves and to others.
Shared Care
Another important aspect of the toal care programme is to assist teh children where possible to maintain contact with their parents or extended family, as the case may be. Social workers arrange visits, outings, family meetings and home visits to address family problems. The Haven promotes the "sharing of care" for the children with the parents and with additional help from volunteers, sponsors and donors.
